SUDAN CRISIS
SIGN THE PETITION NOW

Following over a year of conflict, with ten million people fleeing their homes, the crisis in Sudan is catastrophic.

Our Government must act now to save lives.

  • Without action it could be the worst humanitarian crisis the world has seen in forty years.

  • Horrific violence continues to take the lives of thousands of people.

  • There is an imminent threat of widespread famine across the country, with children already dying of starvation.

  • Time is running out – the window for getting aid in and preventing a devastating loss of life is rapidly closing.

Pictured: Jacklyn, 12, and her family fled Sudan with nothing except the clothes on their backs. Jacklyn wants the war to end so she can return home to Sudan and go back to school. The family are in urgent need of food, shelter and water.

The situation in Sudan is incredibly bleak, including for millions of children and their families. Attacked, displaced, forced out of school, and now increasingly hungry, their lives and futures are at grave risk.

But, working together, including alongside local Sudanese aid groups, we can make a difference.

Our message to Foreign Secretary David Lammy:

“Now is the time to stand with Sudan and act before it is too late for millions of people. Every single day is a chance to save more lives.

The new UK Government must act fast, including by:

  • Immediately announcing additional UK funding at scale to save lives, as well as urgently providing the full £89 million the UK has already pledged in aid for Sudan this year.

  • Ensuring its aid is delivering for children, girls, women and other marginalised groups throughout Sudan and neighbouring countries, including through tackling the horrific increase in sexual and gender-based violence. UK aid must also include scaled-up support and protection for local aid groups, many of whom provide vital support to people in areas that the United Nations can’t currently reach.

  • Rapidly scaling up the UK’s diplomatic response, with the aim of ending the violence immediately, securing access for aid and supplies to all parts of the country, ensuring adherence to International Humanitarian Law, and building a lasting and fair peace. As part of this, the UK should appoint a high-level UK Special Envoy for Sudan and increase meaningful UN Security Council action on Sudan.

  • Creating safe and legal routes for people fleeing violence in Sudan to seek protection, especially in cases of family reunification.

UK leadership over the coming weeks can help save lives and galvanise the international community to do far more. The UK must act now and stand up for Sudan.”
